According to the amendments to the Law (Article 19, paragraph 6) "About  the status of war veterans and guarantees of their social protection"  like combatants  are recognized servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who defended the independence, sovereignity and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and also who participated in anti-terrorist operations (ATO).

To control this question, commander of the army or national guard unit issues an appropriate order about ordered trip to the areas of the ATO, and an information about the participation of the military in the ATO has to be written in personal data file and certified with official seal.

Issuing identification card about taking part in  fighting  will be organized by the Department of Personnel Policy of the Ministry of Defence,  regional and Kyiv City military commissariats.
